2012I haven't bought a calendar for the next year; none of the stores are selling any. None of the stores are even open anyway, at least not for business. But their doors have been forced to yield, their shelves ransacked, and then the overturned building either abandoned or used for shelter.   
My current calendar sits on the wall, haphazardly dangling from a single tack, under newspaper articles with roughly-cut edges and huge headlines. The squares representing past days have been eaten by ambitious 'X's marked in red sharpie. Still more hastily-written articles and eye-catching snapshots adorn the rest of the space, covering the pai 2012

conquerors of the skymetal walls scrape against the skies,  parting clouds as they reach higher, always higher,  to pierce the scattered stars;   
build our swords taller to  spear the heavens, and we'll  let the rain  splatter against the glass sides of the blade;  no blacks, no whites, just greys   
the atmosphere bleeds into your ear;  water seeps through windows left open  and smuggles away brain fluid in evaporation,  leaving an image of constellations in your mind,  the only treasure you wish to find   
you cannot hold the sun in the palm of your hand,  but you try to conquerors of the sky

Shapes in the VoidI saw a face  
before I was born   
Its wide eyes were crystal orbs  
murky with reasonless terror,  
from whence a single innocent  
tear bubbled and slithered  
down a hollow, unfed cheek   
Its asymmetrical ears were closed off,  insensitive to sound, and only present  
as awkward bits of flesh with potential  for some unknown purpose   
Its shrunken nose was pointed straight at me,  
so close I could feel a slight breath,  
a single touch in an empty atmosphere   
And in its gaping mouth, lined  
with thin lips for borders and

October 19th, Early MorningThe grass has paled overnight  after bearing witness to some unknown sight,  marked with icy glitter and fallen leaves,  its bent blades still with fright   
The sky is a lazy shade of heavy blue,  cleared of stars but still filled with a  sleepy desire to dream, because it is yet  too soon for the sun to show its face   
And in between, the air is laced with frost,  the essence of which discomforts my nose  with annoying tingles when I try to smile  and take optimistic breaths   
Crossing the distance,  
uniform streetlights are lined up to greet the bus

my pretty words...I feel weightless, infinite.  I'm scared to open up the window for fear that I'll evaporate into the night sky, stretching myself out to embrace the stars.  It's a beautiful night out there to go with the beautiful day: the cerulean sky, peppered with a cloud or two and the lovely poetry of red and gold leaves spiraling down from the trees.   
There is a certain beauty about autumn, even though everything is dying.  It's the sort of beautiful that you can't find in magazines or in plastic people and shallow smiles.  It's the sort of beauty that is omnipresent, like the touch of carbon in oxyge my pretty words...

a for autumn, a for annewind blows through the slowly falling trees  they sing in autumn harmonies  anne's shirt falls down her shoulder  the sidewalk whispers, "it is october"   
and i, i never knew i would get this old   
heat leaks through anne's palms as she runs  through reflections of the slowly setting sun  she jumps and she swings off of the smile of a  passing stranger who said,   
"i collapse and i dream only of her lips  brushing up against some other girl's hips  whispering her name like she's forgotten mine"

Childhood DreamsOur whispers in the dark  running with scissors  until tendrils of blood  marked our hands.  and I helped you battle gravity  in clumsy cartwheels and handstands.   
I painted you in crayon smiles  and you breathed secrets  into words  we flirted with eyelash kisses  and sent butterfly wishes  out into the world.   
I crossed deadly hopscotch rivers  in a dangerous love-affair,  pastel colours and cotton candy  dandelion rings  tied in daisy chains  beneath your hair.   
I pressed my lips into patchwork blankets  clothed in them like Childhood Dreams

FillI fill your shoes with the words of souls  so you might crush them  
like tissue-paper  
under your feet  and you  
walk  
all over my mind  the way I step into your mouth.   
Your tongue is unwelcome here,  and breathless lips  waiting for silence  breathe the words  into the dark  and deep.   
Curls of thought  trail over restless hands  and lie between faded gums,  Unfurls into my throat  and hangs my head  in shame  with the soft pressure  of a gun.

Concealed in Tranquility   
It’s a scene of endless harmony  Leaves spiral gently to the ground  The stream continues to flow onward  Pine needles drift through the air  The air wafts in a peaceful flurry   
Nothing to suggest that the enemy  lurks in the dense shadows around  every tree and bush, undeterred  by any sort of mindful despair;  they can wait, there’s no hurry   
It’s serenity  not even a sound  nothing can be heard  no sign of anything there  nary a sigh, moan, or worry

Fallen Angel   
lying in ruin  she is forgotten.  her stone wings begin  to crumble and cave in.   
she lies crumbling away.  a hard and solemn grey  her eyes ask for another day  to simply lie in the disarray.  
 
she's simply a worn statue.  lost in the blue  fallen pieces lying askew  
a repair long overdue.   
but no one sees her  lying lonely under the fir  left to endure  the brutality of the weather.

A small crowd of young school boys stood pressed up against the white picket fence, as they always did after school. But today was different. Mr. Bumbry was joined by a young man; not all that much older than the boys outside. The crowd whispered amongst themselves. Some recognised the new addition to the show.  "But that couldn't be Timmy, could it?" they chirped.  Timmy walked around the cottage, brush at the ready, sloshing it on the walls here and there... Mr. Bumbry stood inside, in the dark, waiting for the boy to return. After around ten minutes (a full twenty ahead of Mr. Bumbry's old time), Timmy came to a stop by the front

You know what guys? A few minutes ago, I had finished writing the coolest feature journal ever. And then something about a pop-up window.. popped up, and somehow I lost everything.
Oh yes. And now it is Saturday and I am angry about losing AN HOUR OF WORK going through my Favourites folder for the pieces that stood out to me the most (out of the pieces that stood out to me, thus why they were faved in the first place) and I should go to bed except I'm not going to.

I don't care if I'm up until 6 in the morning. I WILL GET THIS FEATURE POSTED. *has completely lost it* Because these people deserve it.

Because I never ever do features, but I feel the need to tonight. Art isn't meant to be archived in a Favourites folder, it's meant to be experienced.

So dammit. (Keep in mind that the journal I wrote the first time through was better and I was not as tired and sigh.)

And I know many of you might not have time to go through all this, but I only do a feature every once in a blue moon. These pieces.. are the ones that resonate with me. The ones that left me breathless, or just the more memorable ones.

this is THE song that kept me from throwing my laptop against the wall when I lost everything. it's also the song I've been looping for.. WELL over an hour now, and which put me in a feature-y mood in the first place. that's saying a lot. There's something about it that just makes me go back and hit ';Play' over and over again.
